Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, has asked drivers and hawkers along the George Walker Bush highway at Apenkwa to vacate the place.
Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” programme, the Minister warned that any person spotted on the road engaging in any kind of trade as well as vehicles that stop on the stretch of the road will be arrested and prosecuted.
According to him, the activities on the road pose danger to the commuters and drivers.
The Minister stated categorically that the commercial bus, popularly called “trotro”, drivers and hawkers are to relocate to the Achimota bus terminal which was built by the former President John Agyekum Kufour.
He disclosed that the exercise to remove the hawkers and transport bus drivers will begin from 15th October, 2022.
“We will make announcement from on the 1st of October. We will be there everyday. We will plead with Dr. Dampare to authorize his Police officers to arrest any car that will stop there as well as any person who alights there . . . we will plead with the Police to do about two or three months exercise. Those arrested will be sent to court and fined,” he stated.
