The deputy Minister for communication Hon. Fatima Abubakar, has said accusations of individuals especially politicians who are involved in galamsey must come with evidence.
Her comment comes after some people claim some politicians are behind illegal mining activities in the various communities.
According to Hon Abubakar, ‘’every community has a leader, you will not fully understand the level of their influence when you are outside their community. Some people assume galamsey is spearheaded by big people and often times ‘big people’ are regarded as politicians. There are some business men in some communities whose influences are higher than even the President, and they have built clout over the years, such people are also big men. Maybe there could be a Politian is involved but that doesn’t mean the people in the community are not involved”.
”If our accusations are not based on evidence, and if we don’t name and shame and stop pointing hands at the big people in the city, those in the communities will go scot free, and we will loose sight on achieving the ultimate goal”, she added.
