Acting Executive Director of Ghana Museums and Monuments board, Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah, has disclosed that one of the numerous benefits Ghana can derive from the National Cathedral is tourism.
Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro, on Movement In The Morning, on Movement TV/Wontumi radio, Mr Ntiamoah revealed that the completion of the National Cathedral, will attract foreigners into the country and boost the local economy.
He said that ” One of the greatest benefits we can get from the cathedral like I’ve said is tourism. When you got to basilica and the rest, people travel from far and near to go and look at it. Same as Notre Dame in Paris, you see when we are talking about tourism, people don’t see it but let me cite an instance. Lets say I’m from Ghana going to Dubai, and i take along four thousand dollars, all the expenses that would be made with that money would boost the local economy in Dubai.
Likewise if we have people coming from America, visiting our tourists site in Ghana, spending days, sleeping in hotels, hiring taxis, buying fuels, buying food and buying water, it boosts the local economy hence the lives of individuals will be better and that is what people need to understand. That is the power of Tourism.”
