Okudzeto Ablakwa’s Lawyers Beg To Receive Contempt Summons On His Behalf

Accra, Ghana – February 28, 2023 – Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has instructed his lawyers to accept service of a contempt application brought against him to ensure an expeditious disposal of the matter before the court.

In a letter dated February 22, 2023, from Sory@Law addressed to the Registrar of the High Court, Hon. Ablakwa’s lawyers provided an undertaking to the court to receive a contempt application brought against him. The letter stated that, “To avoid any delays and ensure an expeditious disposal of the application before the Court, our client [Hon. Ablakwa] has instructed us to accept service of the application for contempt on his behalf in terms of the provisions of Order 7 rule 12(2) of the rules of the Court.”

The letter further stated, “We are by this letter confirming that our office clerk in the name of Abu Omoru will present himself at the registry of the Court on Thursday the 23rd of February 2023 to accept service of the application for contempt. Alternatively, you may cause a bailiff employed with the Judicial Service to effect service of the application for contempt on us at our office address indicated below.”

It is currently unclear whether the application has been personally served on Hon. Ablakwa through his lawyers. All efforts to reach Hon. Ablakwa and his lawyers proved futile. It is surprising that Hon. Ablakwa is now chasing the Court to be served with its processes after he evaded service deliberately and told his supporters after Court that he had won the case.

Hon. Ablakwa’s lawyers have emphasized that it is in his best interest to have the contempt application determined as quickly as possible. By accepting service of the application, they hope to ensure a swift resolution of the matter.
