Government spokesperson on social services, Alhaji Yusif Fofana, has assured Ghanaians that Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s intention of stabilizing the cedi will become a reality.
Speaking in an interview on Movement In The Morning, with Kwaku Dawuro, on Movement TV/Wontumi radio, Alhaji Fofana commended the government for working hard and putting in extra effort towards making the cedi steady. He said this as part of the many achievements made by the Financial Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta under the President Akuffo Addo led government.
He asserted that ”We are on the right path to breaking the 8, as we are focused on bringing back the economy on track. Let us make sure that by the close of this year people can see our effort, because it is obvious things are changing, the cedi has become very stable and hardly do you hear anyone speak about it. Never in the history of this country since the colonial days has cedi appreciated after depreciating.
In this case it depreciated and went as high as Gh17, but as we speak now it has appreciated to Gh12, and still coming down because the more we put things in place the more it comes down. I heard the Finance Minister says his target is Gh8 or Gh9, and i know we will get there now that there is no pressure on the cedi or dollar because of gold-for-oil, we will get there so Ghanaians should exercise patience.”
