The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, April 3 held meetings with the National Council on the timelines of the ruling party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
Agreement was reached to have a National Congress on Saturday, November 4 for the next flagbearer to be elected.
This was approved at the meetings.
Before then, if the number of aspirants is more than five, a Special Electoral College election will be held on Saturday, August 26 to reduce the candidates to five.
But interested candidates will have to pick forms from Friday, May 26 when nominations open.
It is scheduled to close on Saturday, June 24.
Nominations for parliamentary aspirants in constituencies not occupied by an NPP person will open from Thursday, June 16.
Closing of nominations will be on Friday, July 14.
The primaries for the orphan constituencies, as the party describes them, will be held from Tuesday, August 1 till Saturday, December 2.
Primaries for constituencies held by NPP MPs will be held in 2024, precisely Saturday, February 24.
“The National Council further barred National, Regional, Constituency party executives and MMDCEs from contesting in Constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Party.”
