Former deputy General secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen has explained the reason for his unflinching support for Bawumia.
According to him, one may think he’s throwing his weight behind Bawumia to become the flagbearer due to what he stands to benefit from him, however, the truth of the matter is that he doesn’t even know where the Vice President even lives.
“I don’t even know his house. Throughout my life, I have visited his office not more than five times. But I believe in him and will sleep in comfort when he’s elected as the Presidential candidate for the party because I know he’s the best bet for the party. That explains why I’m so much determined so see him crowned as the flagbearer”, he said on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio.
He furthered that he the NP always look at for the winnable, marketer candidate to represent the party and it’s been so since 1992 with Adu Boahen through to President Agyekum Kufuor in 1996 to 2007 with President Akufo-Addo.
“I have this inner voice that whenever I predict something it doesn’t fail. I don’t usually speak. So, when I do, you should know it’s serious”, he said.
Lawyer Obiri Boahen stated that he takes inspiration from former President Kufuor.
“When NPP lost power in 2008, whenever you met him, he was always in pain and felt bad that the party couldn’t retain power after he had left. That’s exactly why we wouldn’t want same to happen after Nana Addo’s tenure comes to an end”, he told Kwaku Dawuro.
So that marketability, winnability, accessibility is very important- and Dr. Bawumia fits in best”, he stressed.
