The founder of the National Liberation Congress, (NLC), Stephen Atugiba, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Ashanti Region against losing the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, better known as, Chairman Wontumi, insisting his loss will take the party to opposition.
According to the former member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, Chairman Wontumi), a national asset is very keen on the victory of the NPP come 2024 elections.
‘’No chairman in the Ashanti Region has won more sit for the NPP than Chairman Wontumi, NPP cannot afford to lose him due to trivial issues and Alan-Bawumia division. There are certain people whose absence will cost the party just as it did with the NDC. When Yaw Boateng Gyan and the late Kwabena Adjei left the party, the NDC went into opposition in 2016. I am warning the NPP again, I don’t want NDC’s unfortunate incidence to happen to them, maintaining chairman Wontumi is very crucial at this time’’, he said.
Atubiga stated again that most of the people who were appointed in the Ashanti Region were through Mr. Antwi-Boasiako’s recommendation, citing that the people who were not appointed by the President in the Region are angry and want the party in opposition.
Then he says, “Chairman Wontumi has become a threat to many people, and they are doing everything possible to get him out of the race but that will never happen because the man has duly paid his dues. If you should ask me I will say he should go unopposed’’.
‘’Most members of parliament in the Ashanti region are not doing their job and instead of blatantly blaming such people for their flaws, Chairman Wontumi is being accused of the things they were supposed to do for the Region since they are being paid to work. They should go to the Region and work.’’
He further added that the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman is very generous to the extent that he feeds everyone in the Region regardless of their political affiliation.
“Wontumi is not particular about party colors, he helps everyone who comes to him for help, even the NDC boys’’, he specified.
He concluded that Chairman Wontumi has all the qualities that are needed to win power in the 2024 elections.
“Chairman Wontumi is the strategy to break the eight. You will regret, it if you take chairman wontumi off the race’’, he warned delegates.
