EIU Report Is A Guide For NPP To Win Next Elections- Deputy Editor of Daily Dispatch

A deputy editor of Daily Dispatch newspaper, Peter Ankoma, has referred to the latest report by the Economic Intelligence unit (EIU) as guide to help the New Patriotic Party (NPP) maintain political power rather than hand over to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Sharing an opinion on Movement TV’s ‘B3 Kyere Mu’ show last Saturday, Peter Ankoma stated that if the incumbent government manages issues of Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) well together with securing funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), it will dramatically change the narrative of the EIU.

IMF staff and the Ghanaian authorities have reached staff-level agreement on economic policies and reforms to be supported by a new three-year arrangement under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) of about US$3 billion.

In Peter Ankoma’s view, if the NPP government is able to successfully complete the two hurdles, “the next report from EIU would be different”.

The EIU has projected a win for the opposition NDC after the 2024 General Elections in a report published on Friday, April 28, 2023 and contained in their April 2023 Country Report on Ghana.

A portion of their report read: A former president, John Mahama, launched his campaign to secure the NDC presidential candidacy in March.

However, the NDC could also choose to revitalise its prospects with a fresh candidate, such as Kwabena Duffuor, a former finance minister, who has also declared his intention to secure the party candidacy.
