The leadership of the Ghana National Union of Technical Students has taken note of the one student, one laptop policy proposed by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia at the 60th Anniversary of Hohoe Global Evangelical School.
The proposal is positive and should be advanced. It is in the right direction to equip students with necessary I.T. skills, and laptops can help facilitate learning of these skills. The government should also provide necessary tools and equipment to enhance teaching and learning for TVET and STEM programs, especially in technical universities.
Resourcing TVET education should be the priority of the government at this moment. The government should prioritize improving under-resourced schools to an average standard to ensure justice and equality in the educational sector. This includes improving desks, classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and teachers to ensure equity and equality.
GNUTS recognizes the Vice President’s effort to use technology to promote education, however other educational concerns should be taken into account. We urge the government to prioritize the pressing educational concerns.
