Foreign Policy and Security Analyst, Adib Saani, has said that information management is very key in fighting terrorism therefore government must be concerned about the kind of information it disseminates in order not to compromise the country’s security.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Political Show, the Executive Director for Jatikay Centre for Peacekeeping and Counter Terrorism, advised that the security agencies must be proactive and swift in addressing Ghana’s security concerns, adding that the dissemination of information should not be constricted to media airplay, but should be carried down to the markets and public spaces.
“Communicate through secured services and avoid the releasing of letters”, he urged.
Mr. Saani underscored the need for a deeper collaboration between the government and Civil Society Organization (CSO) widely to propagate the message and downplayed the unveiling of terrorism ambassadors.
”Are you now introducing ambassadors when you are supposed to work closely with the CSOs? Counter terrorism is a technical area and cannot be handled by ambassadors. It’s a job for CSO and not ambassadors”, he indicated.
“These CSOs are well grounded in the communities. They know what is going on and have already been engaging the communities; government would have to rely on them to a very large extent to get the information across widely”, he stressed.
He further advised the National Security to improve its homeland security through improved intelligence. However, he noted that the National Security alone cannot do this- hence, needs the CSOs and the populace on board.
He further disclosed that the possibility that terrorists are in Ghana is very high.
“Counter extremism is not like Ghana Music Awards. This is a wake-up call to us”, he added.
