A Christian Cannot Divorce Due To Abuse- Pastor Nana Sarpong

A Pastor of the Holy Hill Chapel Assemblies of God, Nana Sarpong, has advised Christians to desist from divorce.

Justifying his advice, he told Maame Dufie of ‘Wontumi Nka Wasem’ on Wontumi FM, that there’s no way he will advise a church member to divorce his/her partner due to marital abuse.

According to him the only reason one could divorce their partner is when the partner commits adultery.

He blamed marital abuses on sex before marriage which according to him, God frowns upon, therefore whoever commits the act before marriage invites Satan into it. Hence, the cause of domestic violence.

“Once you fornicate, you have gone contrary to the word of God because the bible speaks vehemently against sex before marriage. When it happens, the devil sets in and takes dominion of the marriage. As such, there will never be peace in the marriage , and  domestic violence will take over” he said.

He went further to say that no christian must divorce their partner as a result of marital abuse.

He stressed that “There are no cases in which the Bible allows divorce except for adultery, or death. I will never advise any church member to divorce. It shouldn’t be encouraged. The Bible never said you should divorce due to abuse. Marriage is honourable to God”
