First vice Chairman for Dome Kwabenya constituency, Paul Opoku, has disclosed that his greatest fear is the breakup of the party after the internal elections.
He laments the blatant disregard of rules and regulations set out by the party on the conduct of executives in the run up to the internal election.
“The party has laid out the rules and regulations which indicates that party executives are not supposed to endorse or campaign for any candidate…But in this case, there’ve been many party executives who have gone contrary to the rules, and nothing was done to sanctioned them…they were not called to order”, he bemoaned on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV.Â
However, the host Kwaku Dawuro noted that if the party is to adhere strictly to such directive, then the party may end up suspending all executives of the party.
“Take Dome Kwabenya constituency for instance, When Kennedy Agyapong came around to campaign, all constituency executives attended the meeting, and it was same with Bawumia and Alan kyerematen. During such meeting with Kennedy Agyapong and Alan kyeremanten, none of the executives were encouraged to make a declaration and support for neither of them, however, when Dr. Bawumia came, some executives were forced to declare their support for him.”, he said.
He disclosed that although he was bold enough to decline the pressure, there are some executives who will succumb to pressure.
“There are others who will declare their support for a candidate out of fear. We were all in this country when Hopeson Adorye made certain comments and was heavily roasted but that didn’t happen with others…”, he added.
He furthered that there shouldn’t be favoritism with which candidate executives decides to follow on a campaign thrill.
“If there’s a candidate coming to campaign in Greater Accra and the regional executives decide to follow him…they must ensure that they do same for all candidates…”, he explained.
He further disclosed that his greatest fear is the breakup of the NPP after the internal elections.
