Why Don’t We Demonstrate To Burma Camp If We Think We Have The Right To Demonstrate Everywhere- Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Reacts To #OCCUPYBOG Demo

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has reacted to the ongoing #OCCUPYBOG Demo happening in Accra.

According to him, although the demonstrators have their right to do so as enshrined in the constitution, there are limits to it.

“Everyone is entitled to demonstration as they have their freedom of speech. Whiles, in opposition, we also staged several demonstrations. There’s no way we cannot prevent anybody from demonstrating because we are in government now. President Akufo-Addo is an astute lawyer and cannot defy the law. However, one cannot say because he/she has freedom, they can do absolutely everything”, he said.

He cited an example where he noted that “you cannot be playing loud music in front of someone’s house and say you are doing so because you have your freedom…what we need to know is that where your freedom end is where someone else’ right begins”.

He furthered that although the demonstrators have the right to demonstrate, they cannot do so to some jurisdictions.

There are security installations one cannot trespass. “If you think you have the right to demonstrate across everywhere, then why don’t we demonstrate to Burma camp or police station. You can’t because it’s a security installation”, he stressed.
