Afrobeat sensation Gyakie has said her initial aspiration was to become an entrepreneur, not a musician.
The “Forever” hitmaker unfolded this aspect of her journey on The Day Show with Berla Mundi, shedding light on how her path to musical stardom unexpectedly began.
Gyakie pursued her studies in International Business at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) intending to venture into entrepreneurship.
It was during her time at KNUST that fate intervened, leading her to a chance encounter with her producer, Sosa, through a friend on campus.
Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Gyakie shared, “So before I got into the university because that’s where everything started for me. Before I went to KNUST, I just wanted to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to get money so I studied International Business in KNUST until I met my producer, Sosa on campus through a friend.”
Following their meeting, Sosa sent Gyakie a beat that would go on to become her debut single on streaming platforms. The track, titled “Never Like This,” not only marked the beginning of her music career but also unveiled her innate talent for songwriting.
Gyakie has since risen to prominence with a string of hits, including “Something” and her latest release, “Rent Free,” which has already captured attention and is gaining traction across various social media platforms.
