As of 10pm yesterday, 10th January, power was restored to the entire country. Wapco suspended the restriction on gas supply after high-level meetings and agreement reached between Wapco and the government.
There is no dumsor in Ghana and no one is hiding anything from the good people of Ghana. Currently, we have an installed capacity of 5,138 MW and our peak demand as at 11 December 2023 is 3,618 MW. There is excess capacity to take care of all ongoing maintenance in Tapco, Tico and Akosombo.
Wapco issued a letter to GNPC on 8th December for outstanding payments in December. A payment of $3.5 million was made immediately. Because of the Christmas break, there should have been proper consultation and communication with Wapco to assure them of when they will receive their payment balance. This led to the shutdown on 9th January. The government is taking steps to prioritize the various payments through the cash waterfall system. CEOs appointment by the government should do their work to help avert such unfortunate power Outages in the country.
