Golfers in Kumasi have rallied together to support the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), which serves as the referral center for 12 out of the 16 regions of Ghana.
As part of activities to support Otumfuo’s fundraising campaign for the hospital, Mr. B.K. Asamoah and Golfers in Kumasi earlier today, organized an appeal for fund event at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi, on Saturday.
The program was dubbed ‘the King Calls, Golfers Respond to Heal KATH’.
This is a positive response to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s call, having initiated a fundraising campaign to help raise at least 10 million dollars for the comprehensive renovation of the entire hospital. This project, known as the Heal Komfo Anokye project, is part of the activities commemorating the 25-year Anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the Asante Gold stool, which commence this year.
The hospital, located in Kumasi, has been facing structural challenges, particularly with its aging block A-D, which was built 70 years ago and has never undergone renovations.
This unfortunate situation has caught the attention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who recently visited the facility and expressed concern about its state, describing as apologetic and embarrassing, the current state of the facility.
The collective efforts of golfers and other concerned individuals will contribute significantly to improving healthcare infrastructure in the region
Despite its external appearance, the hospital faces critical challenges within its walls. Deep wall cracks, corroded iron rods, and leakages during rainfall are prevalent. Additionally, the lack of fire detectors and dysfunctional electrical wires necessitates immediate attention. The hospital’s CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai Mensah, sought the assistance of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to address these pressing issues.
