The Member of Parliament (MP) of Asante Akim North, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi, has described as betrayal, comments made by the South Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over recent hike in passport fees.
This comes after the Ranking Member on foreign affairs committee in Parliament, had criticized the Foreign Affairs Ministry, describing the increase as unconscionable and insensitive to the Ghanaian people.
Meanwhile, speaking on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi told Kwaku Dawuro that Okudzeto Ablakwa was present during meetings at the committee level, and he agreed to the LI that has necessitated the hike in passport fees.
“What Okudzeto said doesn’t make sense. This is what happens when you venture into politics right after school and when it happens so, you don’t understand real life issues…. This fee is supported by an LI created by Parliament. Which is LI 24.81, passed by Parliament which he (Okudzeto) is part of. He doesn’t understand”, he exposed Okudzeto.Â
“I’m the chairman of the foreign affairs Committe and Okudzeto threw his weight behind the LI at the committee level. The was consensus on this and when you look at our report, you can find that in. You came to the committee level, and we all adopted a report, and it has been passed by Parliament, and here you are, saying otherwise. The NDC members on the committee were supportive, including Okudzeto Ablakwa. He has been swayed by propaganda…”, he added.Â
