A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred Ababio, who is popularly known as Adenta Kumi, has blamed the Telcos for contributing to the delay in the sim card re-registration.
He said this when he joined Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Monday, 1st August, 2022.
Adenta Kumi in his submission said, “the sim card re-registration is part of the digitization agenda which will help in information accessibility. Most of these developed countries are where they are today due to digitization- if we want to get to the peak of our development, then we need to take the re-registration seriously. The big question is-why is the data still not accurate? I applaud the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for extending the deadline for the re-registration, however the minister should pay strict attention to the Telcos. Their offices are mostly situated in the busy zones, so if you happen to live in a community that is not busy you will be found wanting accessing them”.
”Before getting their customers, they had offices at the various spots but now they feel they have their customers so they don’t care about how we are able to access them. We need to blame the Telcos- why should I travel one hour and 30 minutes to access their office for registration. They have technologies for the registration but they don’t want to help fasten the process. They are part of the problem’’, he stated.
He added, “the banks are able to link data without biometric capture because they have have bought the data from National Identification Authority (NIA). Why can’t the Telcos do same? They just want to sabotage the process. People don’t have enough time to leave their business and come to your office. The Minister should sit with them and think about this’’.
He further added that Ghanaians should stop blaming government and tackle the source of the problem.
