Dr. Isaac Kofi Adu Yamoah, a Governance expert has praised President Akufo-Addo for showing leadership by accepting a 30% pay cut following the hardship that has hit major economies in the world including Ghana.
Dr. Isaac Kofi Adu Yamoah who was in awe stated on Wontumi TV that the step being taken by President Akufo-Addo and his appointees was alien in Africa and deserves commendation.
He was however quick to point out that the move to cut salary by 30% should have come earlier when the government of Akufo-Addo took over from Mr. Mahama; but added that it is better late than never.
“Akufo-Addo government has shown leadership. The President should open an account and do a public address like he did during the covid time- he should tell ministers to deposit every money they have with them.
On the back of the current economic hardship the country is going through, President Nana Akufo-Addo has decided to reduce the salaries of all his appointees by between 20% and 30%.
Salaries of ministers, heads of state enterprises as well as heads of municipal and district assemblies will all be affected.
The latest decision was arrived at after the President was engaged in an emergency meeting with his cabinet ministers and members of the Economic Management Team (EMT) over the weekend.
