Dry Spell: Gov’t Set To Distribute Food Grants To Over 800k Farmers

The government will from October 10, 2024, distribute food grants to over 800,000 farmers affected by the dry spell that hit the northern and middle belt of the country.

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The Minister announced that each farmer will receive 25kg bag of rice and 100kg of maize.

Mr Acheampong who doubles as the Abetifi MP noted that the distribution forms part of the government’s existing interventions to curb the impact on the affected farmers.

“From the 10th of October, we will commence the distribution of food grants to over 800,000 farmers in the 8 affected regions. Each farmer will receive 25kg of rice and 100kg of maize.”

“To bring relief to the general population, we are setting up an online grains market starting on the 10th of October to enable the public to conveniently access grains (maize and rice) at affordable prices,” he said.
