The Ghana Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Service has announced plans to provide refresher training to private institutions in the Greater Accra Region, aimed at enhancing their industry standards.
Deputy Regional Director of the Ghana TVET Service, Mr. Philip Aheto, made this revelation on Movement In The Morning Show on Movement TV/Wontumi Radio, Accra.
According to Mr. Aheto, the training seeks to bridge the gap between informal students and Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) knowledge.
“Most TVET students are already working with organizations, demonstrating the practical application of their skills. To achieve this goal, the Ghana TVET Service will provide refresher training to private institutions. This program aims to upgrade these institutions to meet industry standards, ensuring they provide high-quality training to students,” he said…
Furthermore, he noted that the Ghana TVET Service will focus on practical skills development for TVET students. This hands-on approach will equip students with the necessary skills to excel in their chosen professions.
In addition, informal TVET students will receive business skills training through specialized tutorials. This initiative will empower students to become entrepreneurs, creating jobs and contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.
Upon completion of their training, TVET trainees will receive certificates to improve their employability. This certification will recognize their skills and competence, making them more attractive to potential employers.
Notably, TVET education will be provided free of charge, similar to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. This move aims to make TVET more accessible and affordable for Ghanaian youth.
Mr. Aheto emphasized the importance of loyalty and hard work among TVET trainees to attract customers. He also highlighted the regulatory role of the Ghana TVET Commission and the implementing role of the Ghana TVET Service.
This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to reform TVET and promote skills development for industrialization, as outlined in the Education Strategic Plan (ESP 2018-2030). By enhancing TVET education, Ghana can develop a skilled workforce, driving economic growth and development.
