Springfield Achieves Milestone With Successful Appraisal Of Afina Discovery

Springfield Exploration and Production (SEP) Limited and its partners, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and GNPC EXPLORCO, have completed the appraisal well test activity for the Afina discovery.

This accomplishment reinforces Springfield’s position as the first independent Ghanaian and African energy company to operate a deep-water asset and make a hydrocarbon discovery.

The Afina-1x well, originally drilled in 2019, is located at a water depth of 1,030 meters and reaches a total depth of 4,085 meters.

The well uncovered a 65-meter-thick light oil reservoir, with 50 meters of net oil pay in high-quality Cenomanian sandstone formations.

Additionally, 10 meters of gas and condensate-bearing sands were identified in Turonian-age formations at the structure’s edge.

The recent Drill Stem Test (DST) on the Cenomanian sandstone confirmed promising production capabilities, with a maximum flow rate of 4,500 barrels of oil per day (bopd).

Pressure transient analysis indicated reservoir pressure depletion since 2019, reflecting active production within the reservoir.
