Former Hearts of Oak attacker Charles Taylor has expressed concerns about the current structure of the Black Stars’ technical team, which is headed by Otto Addo.
Speaking in an interview, Taylor questioned the qualifications of certain support staff members, singling out former defender John Paintsil, whom he feels lacks the experience required for his role.
Taylor suggested that Otto Addo should consider reshuffling the technical team and bringing in more experienced coaches to enhance the team’s performance.
“If you pick John Paintsil as an assistant, are you a good coach? Paintsil himself said he hadn’t gotten to that level yet but was given the role. I want to know if the GFA or Otto Addo decides the backroom staff because the current people won’t help him succeed,” Taylor told Angel TV.
Taylor also criticized the team selection, arguing that the current lineup of technical staff falls short of the standards needed to achieve progress.
“The technical team members don’t deserve to be there. I said earlier that Addo cannot qualify Ghana for the 2025 AFCON because his demeanor even shows. You have this wealth of talented players, so why can’t you qualify from a group of Sudan, Angola, and Niger?” he added.
Taylor’s comments come in the wake of reports that Otto Addo had raised similar concerns during a meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council on Wednesday, November 27.
Addo pointed out the lack of experience among his staff as a key reason behind the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
The meeting ended without a decision, with the GFA stating that they would consult additional stakeholders, including political figures, before determining Addo’s future as head coach.
