Ghanaian actress and newly elected Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Ebi Bright, has revealed the challenges she faced entering politics.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Ebi, a career diplomat, shared that she was often ridiculed for her background in entertainment.
“I was told politics wasn’t for ‘Cantata’ people like me,” she recounted.
Some dismissed her, saying, “Does this girl think politics is the Cantata she acts in?” Despite these obstacles, she believes her victory will inspire other creatives.
Ebi, who won the Tema Central seat on her third attempt for the NDC, previously ran independently in 2012.
Her victory in a constituency traditionally seen as an NPP stronghold is particularly significant. “I’ve broken the odds.
Tema Central was considered a safe seat for the NPP, but here we are today,” she said.
She emphasized her commitment to serving all constituents beyond party lines and expressed hope her journey would encourage others in the creative industry to engage in politics. Ebi concluded, “I’m elated to be part of our next Parliament.”
