The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi in the Eastern region, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has advised the current Minister of Finance, Hon. Cassie Ato Forson, to be careful with his actions as Minister.
He made this request on the Movement in the Morning show on Movement TV/Wontumi Radio with Kwaku Dawuro.
Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that increasing taxes from 13% to 18% of GDP within four years would have consequences for the country’s economy.
Furthermore, taking a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would result in a higher debt rate for the country. He also emphasized that the Finance Minister should be specific about his promises to Ghanaians.
“The Finance Minister is not in charge of the economy,” he said.
Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah concluded by pledging that the majority would support the Finance Minister’s expenditure plans, but cautioned that he should not claim that there is not enough money to continue projects initiated by the previous government, such as the Agenda 111 policy and free education programs.
