The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will regain power in 2028.
According to him, if the party takes four crucial steps seriously, it will bounce back stronger.
“Trust the NPP to bounce back in 2028. If we take the four steps seriously – reflecting, regrouping, rebuilding, and recapturing – we will regain power,” Awuku said.
He drew inspiration from the NPP’s past experiences, citing the 1996 elections where the party won both the presidential and parliamentary majority despite having only 61-63 MPs.
“The party worked hard with courage, which ultimately led to our victory,” Awuku noted.
Regarding the role of the military in elections, Awuku criticized the election task force’s directive stating that the military has no role to play.
“I find the order from the election task force stating that soldiers have no role to play in elections problematic,” Awuku said.
“The military has a role to play in every election. They may not be at the polling stations, but they provide essential support to the police,” he added.
Mr. Awuku emphasized that the party must reject such calls in the future, adding that while the military should not get involved politically, they have a crucial role to play in maintaining security during elections.
