Kurt Okraku resigns as WAFU Zone B President after CAF appointment

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has officially stepped down as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.

The decision follows his recent appointment as the 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the weekend in Accra, a role that comes with expanded continental responsibilities.

Balancing this new position alongside his ongoing duties at the GFA prompted Okraku to relinquish his WAFU position, ensuring dedicated leadership across all roles.

Reports suggest that Mr. Okraku’s resignation is a strategic move to allow him to fully concentrate on his new role at CAF while creating space for new leadership within WAFU Zone B.

During his time at the helm of WAFU Zone B, Okraku led several key initiatives, notably the establishment of youth competitions aimed at nurturing talent across member countries.

Reflecting on his tenure, Okraku expressed appreciation for the support he received from the WAFU team and reaffirmed his continued commitment to advancing football development in West Africa, despite shifting to a broader continental focus.

His departure opens the door for new leadership to build on the foundations he laid, guiding WAFU Zone B into its next chapter of growth.
