Dr Yennusom Maalug Honoured By Madina MP At Grand NDC Grassroots Awards

In a colourful ceremony held on Sunday, April 27 at the Astro Turf in Madina, Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis Xavier Sosu, honoured Dr. Yennusom Maalug, a Psychiatrist Specialist at Pantang Hospital, for his outstanding service to community health and mental wellbeing.

Dr. Maalug was recognized as part of a broader celebration organized by the MP to appreciate the contributions of key individuals and party grassroots members who played instrumental roles in securing a decisive victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency during the last elections.

The event, which drew over 3,800 NDC branch executives, ward coordinators, zonal leaders, assembly members, and unit committee members, celebrated not only political dedication but also community service and personal sacrifice. Dr. Maalug’s recognition highlights the MP’s broader vision of transformational leadership that goes beyond partisan lines to honour civic responsibility and service.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Sosu announced a series of rewards for party members who demonstrated exceptional commitment, including motorcycles, laptops, tricycles, foreign trips, scholarships, job placement opportunities, and cash prizes. He emphasized that these were not merely transactional incentives, but part of a larger effort to instill a culture of excellence and loyalty within the NDC’s grassroots structures.

A major highlight of the occasion was the launch of a GHC 1 million Welfare Fund, dubbed the “Madina Potwesi Initiative”, which will provide medical and emergency support to branch executives. The scheme starts with an initial deposit of GHC 100,000 and is open to contributions from well-wishers and philanthropists.

In his speech, Mr. Sosu paid tribute to several fallen campaigners, including Nathaniel, who died in service to the party’s cause. His heartfelt reflections drew emotional reactions from many in the audience.

Dr. Yennusom Maalug’s honour adds a healthcare dimension to the celebration, emphasizing the vital role of mental health professionals in community development, especially in underserved areas such as Madina.

The event ended on a high note, with music, camaraderie, and a renewed sense of purpose among party members and community leaders.
