Politicizing Judiciary Will Hurt Investor Confidence – NPP Communicator Cautions Mahama

A communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Raphael Osei Wusu, has expressed concern over the recent suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and the potential implications for Ghana’s judiciary.

According to Osei Wusu, the controversy surrounding the petitions against the Chief Justice should be a significant worry for all Ghanaians.

He questioned the Council of State’s stance, asking if they were implying that the three petitions against the Chief Justice were justified in establishing a prima facie case. Osei Wusu emphasized the need for fairness, particularly in the context of court decisions being attributed to individual judges when they are, in fact, collective judgments of a panel.

The NPP communicator warned that if the judiciary is subjected to political pressure, it would undermine the independence of the judiciary, instill fear in judges, and compel them to make decisions that align with the government’s interests rather than uphold the law impartially. This, he argued, would have far-reaching consequences, including eroding investor confidence in the country.

Osei Wusu stressed that investors would be deterred from investing in Ghana if they perceive the judiciary as being susceptible to government influence, leading to biased rulings. He called on all Ghanaians to resist this development and ensure that the judiciary maintains its independence.
