A fire on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, gutted parts of a 10-storey building housing Flour Mills Ghana Company Ltd at the GAFCO Yard in Tema.
The blaze started on the third floor and spread to the 10th floor through the electrical cable chute in the production unit. It damaged armoured cables, some electrical panels, and parts of the production machinery.
In a statement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said one worker inhaled smoke but was quickly rushed to the GPHA Clinic. The worker is now stable and out of danger.

Thanks to the swift intervention of the Tema Regional Fire Command, other production equipment, the flour warehouse, and offices were successfully salvaged.

The Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Fire Command, Ebenezer K. Yenzu, said firefighters received a distress call at about 8:46 a.m.

By 10:08 a.m., the fire was under control and was fully extinguished at 12:38 p.m.
