Pricing In Dollars; Gov’t To Embark On A ‘Arrest And Shame’ Exercise-Manasseh Discloses.

Government spokesperson on Economy, Mannasah Atta Boahen, has hinted that the government will soon be arresting and making known to the public and persons who price their goods and services in dollars.

According to him, the high demand for the dollar due to its pricing in Ghana, is to be blamed for the depreciation of the cedis against foreign currencies.

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV, Atta-Boahen said that ”people are changing the cedi into dollars because they know that the currency keeps depreciating and therefore by a year time, the value will increase- the demand is becoming so many and the truth is there are people who do not even need the dollar to trade. The rate at which people are pricing their goods and services in foreign currencies is becoming alarming and as a government, we have plans together with the Bank of Ghana to clamp down on such activity.”

He disclosed that although the government has been doing a lot, it usually does not come into the public domain. “It’s about time when we arrest defaulters and make it known to the general public and by doing so, it will deter others from doing the same because it’s often said that the laws of the country don’t work hence the reason why people keep doing the same,” he added.

He went on further to say the monitoring team at the Bank of Ghana will soon be embarking on an exercise to arrest defaulters.
