The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abura- Asebu Kwamankese in the Central region, Hon. Elvis Morris Donkoh, has responded to former President John Mahama’s denigration of the ruling government during his engagement with the USA Ambassador to Ghana.
Hon. Elvis explained that even the best performing currencies have become witnessing some drastic depreciation which is a clear indicated that every economy in the world has suffered a brunt of the global crisis of which Ghana is not an Exception- therefore the government cannot be blamed as the former President Mahama, keep reiterating,
“They know the truth but refuse to admit simply because of politics. Look at what the government was able to do prior to the global crisis i.e., from 2017 to 2019. Mind you, every country is suffering from the economic turbulence- you can go online and check, a pound to a dollar has witnessed the worse depreciation since the 1930s. Ghana doesn’t live on an island and therefore everything that happens elsewhere affects us and we cannot write Covid-19 out”, he said.
“The most shocking thing is they compare us to the other neighbouring countries. but the truth is they are all suffering- you can go there and check. I will therefore plead with former President Mahama, he should know better”, the lawmaker told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.
He quickly added that ” I’m not saying everyone is living comfortably; no, that cannot be true. We accept that there are challenges. But despite these challenges, we are still growing as a country and has never been standstill”.
This comes after former President Mahama had told the USA ambassador to Ghana that the mismanagement of the economy by the ruling government is to be blamed for economic woes of the country and not the global crisis.
