A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Annom Boateng better known as Fransoa has lashed back at former President Mahama’s corruption comment against Akufo-Addo’s government, noting that he has no moral right to talk about corruption.
According to him, a lot of corruption related cases which happened under the former President Mahama’s watch of which he was even involved. “A former President had to set up a committee to investigate him (Mahama) even when he was a Vice President and he wants to tell us he has the idea and knowledge to fight corruption”, Fransoa spoke on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.
“Fighting against corruption is not the sole prerogative of the President- we all have a responsibility to fight corruption. Even for someone to sign certain documents for you, he will first request that you add something else to the document, and that’s corruption. If we are to explain into detail what corruption means, then we will know that every Ghanaian is corrupt. It began right from our childhood with the kind of upbringing we had, making it difficult for us to change- and that is why this current government is suffering to fight against corruption because it’s been in existence for long”, he said.
“Most civil servants are more corrupt than politicians, be it NPP or NDC. Many do not think about Ghana; it’s about their parochial interest just so to enrich themselves and their family. Former President Mahama thought he was saying what he said just to disgrace the Akufo-Addo led administration but didn’t tell the entire society that corruption has been a fiber in this country and therefore in order to deal with it, we must look at certain areas. I have never seen him talk as a statesman, but always as a politician because he wants to come into power and these things are not helping in this country”, Fransoa added.
Stressing that “this is someone who says the country cannot prosper without paying tax, yet he turns round to say otherwise when the Akufo-Addo Government is introducing taxes- and any move by the government to rake in revenue they rise against it. Former President Mahama is also part of the system that is not helping us fight corruption”.
In conclusion, he said the NDC should be very careful so that when the special prosecutor turns attention to them, they wouldn’t say it’s witch hunting.
This comes after former President Mahama over the weekend noted during the climax of this year’s Asogli Yam festival in Ho that the Akufo-Addo government has failed the fight against corruption.
