A Government’s spokesperson on social service, Alhaji Yusif Fofana, has touted the government’s commitment to fighting illegal mining in the country.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo led administration has demonstrated a high level of commitment in fighting the galamsey menace which has caused more harm than good to Ghana.
“Even though the Government has not yet eliminated the galamsey menace completely, there has been improvement on the fight against it in the country, stressing that Nana Addo’s Government Has fought Galamsey more than any other government, to the extent that he said he will put his presidency on the line with a commitment to end the illegal small-scale mining in Ghana., he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.
Alhaji Fofana explained that over the past few years, the Akufo-Addo-led administration’s commitment to ending the menace continues to be unmatched.
He noted that the ‘Galamsey’ queen, Aisha Huang has been in this country all these years and all the NDC was able to do to her was to arrest her just for the cameras and release her afterwards. “For him to tell us he’s committed to eliminating the menace is just a lip-service. He will only arrest those involved and later release them”, he added.
“The NDC has no moral right to talk criticize government’s fight against galamsey. The NPP has fought, and we will continue to fight against galamsey so that we wouldn’t get to a point where we would have to be importing water into the country for consumption- but there are a group of people who only want to destroy the country because they are in opposition”.
He called on persons engaged in mining to support the government’s fight against galamsey.
