The Bono East Regional Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Boakye, has stated the directors of the International Monitary Fund (IMF) are speaking in favor of the Ghana’s loan bailout, and that has led to the opposition now attacking them (IMF) because they did not side with they the NDCs in going against government’s pro-poor policies.
Speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show Mr. Boakye said that ‘’the conditions the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took to IMF had no connection with Ghana’s economic situation at the time. Ebola which Ghana recorded non, and the shrinking of China’s economy had no relation with Ghana’s economy. They are now claiming Russian-Ukraine war has no impact on Ghana’s economy meanwhile it has a direct link. IMF today have become government’s spokesperson, stating the country is not requesting for the bailout on a bad note, but due to certain conditions beyond control . This is what the NDC’s don’t want to understand”.
”Ghana running to IMF for bailout is not as a result of bad governance but due to external shocks and situations that is beyond control, they are even pushing to fasten the loan approval. The Minority met the IMf to force them to make review in the free SHS policy, fortunately the policy has already been approved by the IMF. That is why the NDC’s are attacking the IMF”, he stated.
He added that even countries such as Egypt with good economic standing have run to IMF for aid.
