The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano North, Hon Sanid Adamu Suleman, has gone to the supreme court over the Speaker’s ruling of declaring the Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament seat vacant.
The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Wednesday 26th October, 2022 ruled that the report from the Privileges Committee cannot be automatic to declare Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo‘s seat vacant.
According to him Parliament must debate and vote on the ruling before the final decision is taken. The report of the Privileges Committee had earlier arrived on a decision that the seat for the Dome-Kwabenya MP, Hon Sarah Adjoa Sarfo must be declared vacant for her absence in the house.
Private legal practitioner, lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi who is Hon. Adamu Saleman’s lawyer speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show said that ‘’Hon. Sarah Adwoa Sarfo defaulted article 97 1c when she did not show for up for parliamentary sitting for 15 days. The Privilege Committee were supposed to determine if there’s a basis for her absence but she never showed up and that meant she will not stay in power again”.
”The Speaker’s ruling stated the Privilege Committees’ report cannot be automatic to declare Dome-Kwabenya seat vacant. That should not be the case; the Privileges Committee’s report is always final. That’s why Hon Sanid Adamu Suleman is going to court”, he added.
He indicated that the Supreme Courts’ ruling will determine the final call for action.
