A communications team member of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Ernest Frimpong has said that all those who has the capacity and were in authority to help President Akufo-Addo fight illegal mining woefully failed him.
She added that this goes to those who were in charge from 2017 to 2020, where the NPP nearly lost the elections- including Prof. Frimpong Boateng.
Speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show, he said that “the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) equally failed the President. The mining issue is still the same. Operation Vanguard was an industry the President created. Hence, we shoulnd’t have been here having such conversation today”.
However, he was quick to add that there are some indigenes of Wassa Akropong and its environs, who will want to mine and at the same time, ensure that our river bodies and land are not destroyed.
Commenting on Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s report, he noted that almost everything contained in the report is true, but the timing was wrong.
“He should have given the report to the chief of Staff and the President, to let them know that due to the government’s fight against illegal mining, the NPP woefully lost the elections in most areas noted for illegal mining, during the 2020 elections “, he said.
He advised that everyone gets involved to ensure that illegal mining is dealt with. But that will require even the opposition NDC to support such course.
