The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has responded to the call by Prof. Steve Hanke on the government of Ghana to seek alternative means of managing the country’s current economic crisis instead of looking to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking to Wontumionline.com, the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi explained that he is yet to read an economic recommendation from Prof. Steve Hanke that would be benefit Ghana if followed through.
Chairman Wontumi described the latest call by US based economist as one that smells like “fart” noting that there are more seasoned economist in Ghana that can handle the situation we find ourselves which isn’t different from what all other countries are facing.
Ghana has already secured a staff-level agreement with the IMF in December for a $3 billion loan, but approval is contingent on it restructuring its debt of 575.7 billion cedis ($47.6 billion).
“Why is Prof. Hanke concerned about what goes on in Ghana? Who has sent him to wrongfully serialize our economic matters? If you follow all his fart tweets, you will realize that he doesn’t speak about other African nations seeking IMF bailouts but only Ghana. He is a noise maker”, Chairman Wontumi said.
“Under Pres. Akufo-Addo, economic freedom has deteriorated. As a result, GDP per capita growth has crashed. Ghana should turn to the Singapore Strategy (stable money, NO FOREIGN AID, protection of private property & a small efficient govt) instead of the IMF,” Prof Hanke wrote on Twitter post captured by Wontumionline.com.
