Asamoah Gyan Defends Under-Fire Inaki Williams

Asamoah Gyan says Inaki Williams is working tirelessly despite criticism from some fans over the striker’s failure to produce goals for the Black Stars.

The former Spain international made his fifth consecutive appearance for the Black Stars against South Korea on Monday and should have scored.

Williams missed a cut-back with an air-shot inside the area with the score tied at 2-2, but thankfully for him, Kudus was well placed to score the winner as the Black Stars claimed the first three points in the 2022 World Cup.

The miss and his failure to impress against Portugal, a match in which he failed to convert a last-ditch opportunity he created for himself, have left him at the mercy of critics, with some calling for him to be benched.

Gyan, on the other hand, sees positives in Inaki’s performance and wants the Athletic Bilbao to be trusted.

“Inaki is working tirelessly. He’s doing a couple of runs that makes defenders very tired. Even though some of his runs are wrong, he’s giving everything and this is what we need in the national team. Although he’s not used to the team, he’s playing with the heart. He’s giving everything,” Gyan told 3Sports.

The 28-year-old will hope to score his first goal on Friday in the important clash against Uruguay.
