SOME NPP Group from Assin North who are domiciled in the Ashanti Region have expressed their displeasure at the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Chairman Wontumi, for his lack of interest in the impending by-election in the Assin North constituency.
The group says the apathetic attitude of Chairman Wontumi towards the upcoming elections, which is few weeks away, is unfortunate and could adversely affect the chances of the ruling party recapturing the seat.
In a strongly worded statement issued and signed by Conveners of the group, Joseph Nsaaba and Yaw Agyemang Kakraba on Wednesday, the group cited the role Chairman Wontumi played in the recently held by-election at Kumawu and the impact he made, indicating that they expected him to assume similar role as the Assin North by-election beckons.
According to them, the upcoming election should not be seen as an assignment exclusively limited to party executives in the Assin North or the Central Region alone, but instead should all well-meaning members of the party.
“This is why we find the silence of Chairman Wontumi and his team very worrying; In Kumawu for example, Chairman Wontumi pitched camp in the constituency and worked very hard to achieve a resounding victory. Why is he not doing same for Assin North? ” the group queried
They are therefore appealing to the national leadership of the party to prevail upon Chairman Wontumi to join the NPP campaign trail in the Assin North constituency.
