The Bible Society of Ghana is set to make history with the launch of the first-ever New Testament Bible in the Bono language.
This momentous occasion, scheduled for July 28, 2024, at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Sunyani, marks the culmination of seven years of dedicated effort by the Bible Society of Ghana.
The Bono Bible Translation Project was initiated in August 2017 to bridge the gap created by the absence of a Bible in the native language of the Bono people.
The project has garnered overwhelming support from clergy, traditional authorities, and the Bono community, with the goal of making God’s Word accessible to millions of Bono speakers across Ghana and beyond.
The launch event promises to be a captivating experience, featuring scripture readings, cultural performances, and inspiring speeches.
The Bible Society of Ghana is thrilled to bring God’s Word to the Bono people in their cherished mother tongue, which is expected to profoundly impact their lives and preserve the Bono language for centuries to come.
“We are filled with joy to bring God’s Word to the great Bono people in your cherished mother tongue,” said Very Rev. Dr. John Kwesi Addo Jnr, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana.
“This represents a dream fulfilled for many, and we believe it will profoundly impact the lives of Bono speakers and preserve the Bono language for centuries to come.”
The benefits of the Bono Bible are numerous, including serving as a valuable resource for pulpit ministry and personal Christian devotion, reducing the stigma associated with speaking Bono publicly, enhancing evangelism efforts, promoting deeper understanding of the Scriptures, and preserving the Bono language and cultural identity.
“The Bible Society of Ghana extends its gratitude to the Bible Society of Netherlands, the American Bible Society, and the many Ghanaians who supported the project financially. This historic achievement is a dream fulfilled for many and a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to make God’s Word available, affordable, and accessible to Ghanaians in their preferred language and format”, parts of the statement said.
As the Bono community comes together to celebrate this momentous occasion, they invite all to join in the festivities, regardless of location. This is a moment to cherish, and the Bible Society of Ghana is filled with joy to bring God’s Word to the great Bono people in their cherished mother tongue.
