Ghana’s U-23 team, Black Meteors, held their first training session in Morocco ahead of their first match against Congo in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday.
The team arrived in Rabat on Wednesday after a successful pre-tournament training camp in Egypt, where they faced both Egypt’s U-23 team and Zamalek.
Ibrahim Tanko’s men secured a draw and a win with 25 players in those matches and will now be joined by Ernersrt Nuamah, who was on duty with the Black Stars.
Following the withdrawal of the other two Black Stars players, Kamaladeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah, the coach will have a total of 26 players, which will be reduced to 23 today.
Positively, all available players fully participated in the training session, which was held at the Faith Union Sport Training Center, assuring no injuries.
Another session will be held at the same location on Friday before the official one tomorrow.
The tournament will kick off on Saturday, June 24, 2023, with a match between Morocco and Guinea at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Ghana will then play Congo in the other Group A match at the same venue on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
Ghana hopes to finish in the top three in the competition in order to secure a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Ghana had not been represented since 2004.
