BREAKING: New Pope Elected

White smoke has risen above the Sistine Chapel, signaling that a new pope has been elected on the second day of the conclave.

The identity of the new pontiff, along with the name he has chosen, will be announced shortly.

The selection process took two days, consistent with the timeline of the previous two papal elections, indicating that one candidate may have quickly gained the support and confidence of his fellow cardinals during the confidential proceedings.

Both Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI were introduced to the world on the evening of the conclave’s second day, as was Pope John Paul.
