Central Region: Suspect Arrested In Murder Of UEW Lecturer

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a senior lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), whose body was discovered buried near his residence at Essuokyir in the Central Region.

In a statement released by the Police on May 22, 2025, the suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was apprehended after officers visited the lecturer’s home following a missing person report filed by colleagues on 21st May 2025. The colleagues had alerted police after repeated attempts to reach the lecturer proved unsuccessful.

“Police proceeded to the residence of the deceased, where the suspect was found and arrested,” the statement said.

During a search of the property, investigators discovered blood stains leading to a heap of sand about 23 metres from the house. The sand was cleared, revealing a buried body believed to be that of the missing academic. The remains have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Several items identified as the lecturer’s personal belongings were retrieved from the suspect, including “two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner.”

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court.

The Central Regional Police say they are committed to ensuring justice is served in the case.
