The Bono East regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Boakye, has stated that Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) should not be made to contest for parliamentary elections, in constituencies where the sitting MP belongs to NPP.
Speaking on Movement in the Morning show on Movement TV and Wontumi Radio, David Boakye stated that the CEOs should be made to stay where they are- and not given the chance to contest for elections, except for orphan constituencies.
According to him, when it happens so, it creates fractions in the party, which in turn brings apathy and eventually goes against the fortune of the party.
“There should be guidelines for CEO and appointees who wish to contest for the elections. So, like the party constitutions has made it clear that any Municipal District Chief Executive who wants to contest for parliamentary should resign 2 years before the elections, it should be same with the CEOs”, he stated.
He stressed that “Some MP’s have lost touch with their base, as these CEO are doing things which the constituents would have expect their MPs to do and hence, they tend to throw their weight behind the CEOs rather than their MPs. This also brings apathy within the party”.
He urged government appointees and CEO of state-owned enterprises to desist from such act- but rather support the MPs in their constituencies to retain their seats.
