The General Manager of Akonta Mining, Edward Kwasi Akuoku, has told the general public to discharged the deceitful claim that describes the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as a galamsayer.
Speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show Mr Akuoku said that ‘’Chairman Wontumi in law is a separate legal entity from Akonta Mining, the company can sue and be sued. If you sue Akonta Mining, you have not sued Chairman Wontumi. Although he is the owner and director of the company, he is a different entity unless the company commits a crime and there is no access properties related to the company and we unveil the directors”.
”The issue of illegalities or legalities is unfortunate, the statement issued by the Mineral Commission and Lands Commission shows Chairman Wontumi has a ten year mining lease in Samreboi . The truth is Chairman Wontumi has showed interest in the said forest which is close to his mining site, and have put in application of interest . He has not started working in the area, but some unknown persons are operating illegally”, he added.
”There is an issue in our mining and mineral act which needs to be looked at, if we do not have a second look, it will affect us as a country. When you puts in an application for concession, if you are not lucky, illegal miners will operate on the land before you are given the nod to operate legally. Before we went on our current land in 2020, the galamsey guys had illegally operated on 70% of the land, we arrested 22 excavators with the Western Regional coordinator. It was alleged that the illegal mining activities on the area was led by Samatex”, he stated.
He advised Ghanaians to appreciate Ghanaian businesses as they contribute more to the country’s economy more than foreign owned companies.
