The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wontumi Communications, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has revived Ghana’s leading stage play- concert party.
Chairman Wontumi who is also the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said he is enthused to revive concert party and make it the most watched and talked about stage play in the country.
On Tuesday 5th July, 2022, Wontumi Communications in collaboration with National theatre launched the rebirth of concert party at the lobby of the theatre.
Speaking on the motive behind the initiative he said, “today is a great day for Ghana. Growing up we got the chance to watch concert party which brought happiness to many homes. Formally it was key soap concert party, and as children we were eager to watch and we didn’t want to miss any of the plays. It depicted the culture and heritage of Ghana”.
He further stated that we cannot talk about culture without first talking about the National theatre.
“We watched concert party from the 90’s to the 2000’s and suddenly we stopped watching. I have always wanted to be a part of this rich culture so when I was fully convince, I called the board chair Nana Fredua Ofori Atta and told him I want to sacrifice Wontumi communications to support the National Theatre and concert party. He was very much excited and told me to go and meet the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and she warmly accepted me and was willing to give me every support I would need. I spoke with some former actress of concert party and told them to garner their support behind the team for its rebirth”.
He stressed that the happiness and laughter the play brings to people money cannot buy.
“On behalf of the staff at Wontumi Communications, we promise to revive concert party and the National theatre’’, he added.
The old versions of concert party will be aired from 3pm to 6pm every day and the weekend production will be aired live on Movement TV, Wontumi TV, Wontumi Radio both in Kumasi and Accra, movementtvonline.com and wontumionline.com.
Chairman Wontumi called on sponsors to come in and support the project.
He concludes by thanking the board and staff of National theatre and the concert party crew for giving him the opportunity to be a part of the rebirth of concert party.
