Conversations On Our Economy Shouldn’t Be Politicized- Eugene Brempong Urges

The communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the New Juaben South, Eugene Nana Yaw Brempong, has said that the country should have a roadmap for its economy and it shouldn’t be politicized.

Speaking on Movement In The Morning Show, he told Kwaku Dawuro that in a bid to strengthen the cedi, the Government should be able to take stringent measures, regardless of what the public outcry will be, once it is to the benefit of the country by boosting the economy.

“There should be a proper structure for the economy alone, we shouldn’t politicize everything.  The government should be able to ban the importation of certain things into the country although people who import them will also rise against it- it has a lot of political influence. There should be a roadmap for the economy so that when we say we are buying only made in Ghana rice and will not import any, that should be it”, he said.

Adding that “but should the Government ban importation of rice, you will see what the importers like the GUTA will do. We should all rally behind the government when certain decisions are made. Even in the UK, they are complaining and currently workers are on strike. Moreover, it’s not as though the government is sleeping-we are working”.

He made these comments as part of his suggestions to ensure the economy shores up, as the cedi had depreciated against the foreign currencies.
