The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North Constituency, Hon. Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, has stated the group of MPs who are calling for the removal of Ken Ofori Atta will show when invited by the Special Prosecutor (SP) over bribery allegations.
On Tuesday 25th October, 2022 80 MPs which was led by the Asante Akim North Constituency MP held a press conference to impress on the President to sack the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta else they will not support government business.
In a close meeting with the President, he pleaded with the MP’s to allow the finance minister concludes IMF negotiations. This according to many the MP’s have withdrawn their call.
In another close meeting with a business man whose name has not yet been identified, he met with the group to convince them to withdraw their intention to remove the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta after which he handed over a fat envelop which is believed to contain huge sums of money as a way of muting the MPs, and preventing them from taking further actions.
According to report some of the MPs rejected the money and others took the money but gave it to Hon Osei Kyei Bonsu to return to the unidentified person. Now the speculations are that the MP’s have gone for bride to end the “Ofori Atta must go” demand. Some Ghanaians have called on the SP to investigate the issue.
In an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, Hon. Appiah Kubi said that “our motivation is beyond bribery, even if we don’t have money-we have our conscious. Some media houses want to destroy our reputation. I will not even consider that as bride, because this is someone who just had a conversation with us and decided to give us something”.
”He met us in a capacity of a business person who wants the betterment of the country and for peace to prevail. The media needs to stop sensationalism. I have heard some people calling on the SP to investigate the case because they term that as bribery. We will show up anytime we are invited”. he stated.
Hon Appiah-Kubi stressed the group still stand by its words.
